Thursday, July 22, 2010 Everything's Better Down Where it's Wetter: The Georgia Aquarium, Part 1

If you have been keeping up, you know that recently we were on vacation in Georgia, visiting family. While we were there, we took a little day trip to downtown Atlanta to visit The World of Coke and The Georgia Aquarium.

We purchase a Pemberton Place Pass, which includes a ticket for The World of Coke and a ticket for The Georgia Aquarium, for one set price. Not a bad deal at all.

We are a family about saving money because as you can see, there are a lot of us. In fact, as I mentioned before, I was a guest over at Skinned Knees yesterday talking about Family Fun on a Budget. Be sure to stop by and bookmark my friend Christy's awesome blog because I will be there often talking about this subject.

Here are some of the photos from the aquarium. Don't forget to come back tomorrow for the second half.

Small fish tank. The fish were small, not the tank. This thing was huge.

Can you spot Dory?

Literally "under the sea". This is a tunnel we were able to walk through. This tank was huge too.

The Georgia Aquarium, Part 2

When you visit The Georgia Aquarium, you will have the opportunity to see ocean life from all over the world.

The Georgia Aquarium houses the largest aquarium habitat in the world, a 6.3 million gallon tank with thousands of fish and sharks, including four whale sharks. That was the tank in the photos I shared yesterday. One of our favorite parts of the aquarium."Pick the perfect name for our new female ray, and you could win four Georgia Aquarium Annual Passes and four passes to swim in Ocean Voyager in the Journey with Gentle Giants program."

And just so you know...

Here are the names I came up with: Venus, Americus, Luna, Atlantis, and...and...Oh gosh! I can't remember the last one. Grrr! It was several days ago.

Aren't they amazing? It is hard to believe that we share the waters with these amazing, some of them scary (a lot of them actually) creatures.

BTW- The Georgia Aquarium just got its third Manta Ray and is having a contest to name the new ray. Hop on over to the website HERE to enter.

Another one of our favorite parts of the aquarium was the touch tank. I was able to touch a sea anemone for the first time.

For some reason I thought that they were poisonous to the touch. And if you are wondering, they feel like nothing I can describe. I really wanted to squeeze it in my hand but you can't do that.

I would have taken more photos but I was too busy touching stuff. Touched a sting ray too! Would have touched the shark too (a small one) but it wouldn't come my way.

One of the kids favorite parts was Cold Water Creek where we saw the Beluga Whales and the crawl tunnel by the penguin exhibit. You crawl through a tunnel and stand up inside of these observation bubbles to view the penguins. They are right there in your face. Penguins are my favorite, so I got down on my hands and knees to see them too. I wasn't going to miss something like that.

This was a much needed day for all of us and we certainly had a lot of fun.
